The GWTW/Atlanta Bazaar ball isn't until June, but I have a costuming question since it might take some time to get. Would a Confederate officer's uniform be considered toooo un-P.C. to the point of shouldn't wear it? I do want to, umm, "shock the confederacy", but not to the point of social opprobrium. However, it *is* a Confederate ball and there was a war so it would seem kinda silly if there were no soldiers present. Does anyone know of any reputable costumers who can make one? (Red and gray is a dashing combination anyway.) Hopefully not too expensive so I can make a worthwhile bid. "One hundred dollars in gold for Mrs. Charles Hamilton." Great movie.

Re: GWTW ball and costume Q
Thu, February 21, 2008 - 1:13 PMConfederate uniforms would be ENTIRELY appropriate for this event. No gentlemen in Confederate uniform is simply not realistic for Atlanta in 1862.
No, it is not PC; history isn't. In no way do we want to go back to a "gracious" time predicated on owning slaves, but it would be utterly ridiculous to pretend that it didn't happen. -

Thu, February 21, 2008 - 8:56 PMThere are probably some good, inexpensive Civil War sutlers online. They'll ship it right out to you.
